Cold Spots in Your Home? You May Have a Problem With Your HVAC Unit

Are you noticing cold spots around your Duval, Florida, home? If so, it could be a sign that there is a problem with your HVAC system. When appropriately sized and functioning properly, your HVAC system should easily heat even the farthest areas of your home. If it is not, it may be time to call in the professionals. Here are some possible causes behind your home’s cold spots:

Dirty Air Filters

One possible cause of cold spots in your home is restricted airflow from a clogged air filter. When the air filter becomes blocked with dirt and debris, it reduces airflow and makes it more difficult to heat the farthest corners of your home effectively. To prevent this issue, change your air filter at least every three months.

Poor Thermostat Location

In most homes, your thermostat should be placed centrally and away from direct sunlight or other sources of heat. Placement is crucial, as the thermostat reads the temperature in the home to trigger the furnace to turn on or off. To function correctly, the thermostat needs to accurately read the ambient temperature in a room. Unfortunately, due to placement issues or home additions, your thermostat may not be in the ideal location. If you consistently have cold spots in your home, consider moving your thermostat.

Ductwork Problems

Damaged or leaky ductwork can also cause cold spots throughout your home. Your ductwork is responsible for most of the heat loss from your system, and it loses even more if it is damaged. Have your ductwork regularly inspected and sealed when necessary.
